The Youth Volunteer Corps of Tulsa
|The Youth Volunteer Corps of
Tulsa (YVC), a program of the Tulsa Volunteer Center, provides a way for
thousands of young people to develop the habit of giving back through
service – an ethic that will last a lifetime.
The YVC of Tulsa is one of 54 international affiliated programs
of the Youth Volunteer Corps of America (YVCA) and the Youth Volunteer
Corps of Canada (YVCC).
Offer youth opportunities to engage in volunteer community
activities that are challenging, rewarding and educational.
Serve the needs of the community and its residents.
Promote among youth and residents a greater understanding and
appreciation for the diversity of their community.
Promote a lifetime ethic of service among young people.

2000, the YVC referral services helped match more than 1500 individual young
volunteers and more than 350 nonprofit agencies. Our on-line referral services

YVC Summer 2000 Program!
|200 youth volunteered over 8000 hours
during our Summer 2000 Volunteer Program in community agencies
including, Area Volunteers Instilling Desire to Read, the YMCA,
Hillcrest Hospital, Parent Child Center of Tulsa, Brady H.A.N.D., Meals
on Wheels and at the Day Center for the Homeless.

· Seasons of Service!
|The YVC promotes and
participate in local and national days of service. The YVC works with
the City of Tulsa to put on Paint the Town. For 2000’s Paint the Town,
700 youth and 100 adults were signed up to wipe out graffiti and cleanup
Tulsa. The YVC along with the M.E.T, The YWCA Intercultural Service
Center, City of Tulsa, and Keep Tulsa Beautiful to clean up an area of
the Historic Greenwood District. This event was the recipient of the
Youth Environmental Project of the Year award from Keep Oklahoma
Beautiful. This event paired 100 Tulsa youth with 100 National Service
Members from across Oklahoma.

Youth Advisory Council
YVC’s Youth Advisory Council consists of 20 participants representing
10 are school districts. The Youth Advisory Council oversees all YVC
activities. In October 2000, 4 YAC Members attended the Youth
Volunteer Corps of America International Conference in Kansas City, MO.
Tulsa’s YVC will be hosting the 2001 Conference. For more information
on the conference or to join the YAC please contact our office.
· Prudential Youth Leadership
are three major components to the Youth Leadership Training. They include first,
teaching the curriculum, with an emphasis on decision making, team building,
leadership in groups, creativity, diversity, and goal setting; second, the youth
participants planning and implementing the community service project including
managing a budget for the project; and third, a graduation ceremony put on by
community members recruited by the youth participants. Our next Prudential Youth
Leadership Institute will be during the Summer 2001 Program.
